I'm a fan of the classics so I normally cut my natural sapphires in traditional shapes, but this sapphire had such a perfect shape already that I just followed the outline with step cuts. The result is a very clean and very pretty "shield" cut, with a slightly violetish gray color that picks up more blue outdoors on a sunny day. For those fascinated with gemstone phenomena, this also exhibits a rare (for sapphire) red fluorescence. Perfect for a non-traditional engagement ring. No heat or any other enhancements.
