Spinel
Spinel has often been confused with rubies and sapphires - in fact what was thought to be a ruby in the British Crown Jewels is actually a red spinel. Other colors include a broad range of pink, purple, and blue shades, and it is typically found in Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, and Africa. Spinel is a very durable and brilliant gemstone that is perfect for all jewelry uses.
2.66 ct Tanzanian Spinel
One of the gemstones that I found on my February trip to Sri Lanka was this beautiful fuchsia-pink Tanzanian spinel. I recut the pavilion to add additional life to the stone. Untreated, light fluorescence under UV light, excellent crystal and clarity (just a small inclusion in one corner that will likely be covered by a setting prong), a substantial face-up size, and pinker and brighter than the photo would indicate. A fine spinel, perfect for an engagement ring, heirloom or right-hand ring, or any other special occasion.
