Amethyst
Amethyst is the most-valued member of the quartz family, and is the traditional birthstone for the month of February. It has a long association with royalty and fine amethysts are featured in the British Crown Jewels. It is one of the most available and affordable stones, although rich deep purples have always been rare. It is a fairly hard stone and is suitable for most forms of jewelry.
